Background and issues

A leading player in the Ukrainian telecommunications market, rapidly expanding its IT capabilities and modernising its digital infrastructure. Increased data processing volumes and higher requirements for stable server equipment operation made the modernisation of cooling systems critically necessary.

A distinctive feature of the project was the geographical dispersion of facilities — more than 10 sites located in different regions of Ukraine: from Lviv to Odessa, from Uzhhorod to Khmelnytskyi. At the same time, the key challenge was that all work had to be carried out without affecting the operation of the servers — without shutdowns, delays or the risk of data loss during modernisation. This required the team of engineers to design with maximum precision and carry out the work with the utmost care. Such conditions required a high level of team coordination, flexible installation schedules, and agreed implementation standards.

Why was this necessary?
Need to increase cooling capacity The expansion of the company’s IT infrastructure required an increase in the capacity of air conditioning systems to support new technological solutions and the growing workload. Lack of a modern automatic control system The modernisation also included the introduction of dispatching and automation of cooling systems to ensure centralised monitoring, optimisation of energy costs and increased reliability.
Project objective:
  • Ensure reliable and effective cooling of server rooms to maintain stable network operation.
  • Increase cooling capacity to expand Kyivstar’s technological capabilities.
  • Find and implement energy-efficient solutions that will reduce operating costs.
Decision and implementation
Results and effectiveness

Optimisation of
energy consumption

Cooling costs reduced by 20%.

Automated
control

Real-time monitoring and management of climate parameters.

Possibility
of expansion

The upgraded system allows for increased technological capacity without the need to upgrade the cooling system in the coming years.

“This project is a strategic step towards improving the reliability of Kyivstar’s network infrastructure. The modernised cooling systems guarantee the uninterrupted operation of server sites and create a solid foundation for the implementation of the latest technologies.”
