Background and Objectives

The customer was a Ukrainian IT company specializing in software development, consulting, and digital solutions. The company has offices in different Ukrainian cities, and stable network access is essential for its routine operations.

The risks of telecommunications infrastructure disruptions increased substantially at the beginning of the full-scale war. Network damage, emergencies, and potential disruptions affecting Internetproviders could leave offices without their primary communication channel.

Under these conditions, the company needed to establish a backup connectivity option that would not depend on local Internet infrastructure and would enable rapid restoration of network access if the primary connection became unavailable.

Compass Engineering faced several key objectives:

Given the circumstances, it was important not only to select the appropriate technology but also to implement the solution within a tight deadline.

Solution

To establish independent backup Internet access, Compass Engineering conducted the audit of the customer’s needs and organized the supply of Starlink kits for the company’s offices.

The solution included:

The satellite connection became a backup connectivity layer that could be used if the primary Internet provider was unavailable.

The project began with the audit of the existing infrastructure and the assessment of the offices’ requirements. At this stage, Compass Engineering specialists defined the required number of equipment kits and the most appropriate deployment approach for various locations.

The next stage was the procurement and rapid delivery of the equipment. Given the limited availability of telecommunications infrastructure, the delivery speed was one of the key factors in the project implementation.

Following the equipment delivery, the specialists installed, connected, and configured it. The backup connections were prepared for use in case of the loss or unstable operation of the primary Internet connection.

The project was completed within three months.

Implementation Results
The backup infrastructure allowed the company to:

Establish the Internet access channel independent of the local service provider

Reduce the risk of office downtime caused by loss of the primary connection

Ensure backup connectivity for the company’s offices across Ukraine

Quickly switch to the alternative connection in case of issues with the primary channel

Scale the solution according to new requirements or locations

Further Development

In addition to providing backup connectivity for offices, this kind of infrastructure allows using satellite connectivity for temporary or mobile access points where conventional Internet connections are unavailable or require considerable time to deploy.

Conclusions

“The decision-making speed and the technology reliability play a critical role in the context of crisis. Due to the rapid introduction of Starlink, we were able to ensure uninterrupted operations and stable connectivity, which became a key factor in the company’s successful adaptation to the new realities,” the CTO of Compass Engineering said.

The backup connectivity channel is particularly valuable where the team’s ability to continue working directly depends on Internet availability. This approach shifts connectivity from a reactive response to an outage toward a pre-planned alternative, ensuring that the required connection is already in place and can be activated when needed.
