Video Surveillance and POS System Integration for a Bank
Integrated security systems
Financial Sector
5 months
Compass Engineering implemented a project for one of Ukraine’s leading banks with more than 100 branches in different regions of the country and a strong focus on developing technology solutions to enhance security and operational control.
At the start of the project, the bank needed a tool that would allow it to quickly find video recordings related to specific transactions conducted through POS terminals. Without a centralized system, transaction verification and the investigation of disputed cases required considerable time. Employees had to manually cross-reference receipt data, transaction times, and video recordings from the relevant branches.
Another key challenge was integrating the new solution with the bank’s existing infrastructure. The system had to function reliably, introduce no additional risks to operational processes, and be suitable for further deployment.
The primary objective was to create a centralized video surveillance system that would combine video data with POS transaction information.
As part of the project, Compass Engineering:
- Equipped bank branches with video surveillance systems
- Integrated video analytics with the bank’s POS system
- Developed an administrative dashboard for searching video recordings
- Configured search by receipt data
- Tested the solution and trained bank personnel
A key feature of the system was the ability to locate the required video footage not only by time parameters but also by information associated with a specific financial transaction.
The first stage of the project covered 65 bank branches.
The implementation was carried out step by step, taking into account the specific features of the bank’s distributed infrastructure.
At the initial stage, Compass Engineering specialists analyzed the existing transaction control processes, the bank’s security requirements, and the operating specifics of POS terminals. Thisanalysis defined the architecture of the future solution and selected the appropriate technological components.
65 bank branches were equipped with video surveillance systems. Particular attention was paid to ensuring proper coverage of transaction areas and synchronizing video data with events recorded by POS terminals.
The video surveillance system was integrated with the bank’s POS terminals. It allowed using transaction information as a search parameter for finding the corresponding video recording.
A convenient tool was developed for bank employees to search for video footage using receipt data. The dashboard allows users to specify the required parameters, including:
- Transaction date and time
- Receipt number or other receipt data
- Branch
- Cash desk or specific POS terminal
It reduced the number of manual steps required to verify transactions and made the investigation process more structured.
After the integration was completed, the system was tested to verify its operation, search accuracy, and interaction between the video surveillance and POS infrastructure. Bank employees were trained to use the administrative dashboard and locate the required video recordings.
The implemented solution allowed the bank to:
- Centralize the search for video footage related to financial transactions
- Verify disputed transactions faster
- Locate required video footage using receipt data
- Reduce the amount of manual work involved in incident investigations
- Combine video data with information from POS terminals
- Establish a scalable foundation for connecting additional branches
- Enhance operational control across the distributed network of bank facilities
The system can be used not only to verify individual receipts. Its architecture provides opportunities for further development of video analytics, expansion of monitoring scenarios, and integration of additional security modules.
The solution can be adapted for other financial institutions operating extensive networks of branches, cash desks, and POS terminals.
Further advancements can include extra analytical tools, automated detection of atypical situations, and integration with other internal control systems.
When video data and transaction information operate separately, even the routine verification can turn into a time-consuming search. Bringing them together within a single process changes the approach to operational control: instead of manually cross-referencing fragmented data, employees gain a clear and efficient tool for quickly analyzing a specific event.
